What are the new rules for the Gold Portugal Visa?

Current requirements and new rules for the Gold Portugal Visa from 2022

Transfer to Portugal of a minimum capital of €1,000,000.

New rule: Increase in the minimum amount to €1,500,000.00.

Transfer of at least €350,000 to investment funds or capital funds.

New rule: Increase in the minimum value to €500,000

Acquisition of residential property with a minimum value of €500,000.

New rule: The value remains unchanged, but the residential property cannot be located on the coast, Lisbon or Porto. Regions in the interior of the continent or real estate in the Archipelagos of Madeira or the Azores are eligible. Commercial and tourist properties have no restrictions on location.

Purchase of property for rehabilitation, over 30 years old or located in urban rehabilitation areas with a minimum value of € 350,000.

Minimum investment of €350,000 in scientific research activities.

New rule: Increase in minimum value to €500,000.

Minimum transfer of €350,000 for the incorporation of a commercial company, or for investment in an already constituted society. Creation or maintenance of at least 5 jobs in each case, for a minimum period of three years.

New rule: Increase of the minimum value to €500,000.

Other types of investment remain unchanged

Creation of at least 10 jobs;

Investment of at least €250,000 in artistic production, restoration or maintenance of cultural heritage.

When do the new Gold Visa rules apply?

Decree 14/2021 published on February 12, 2020 by the Portuguese Government determines the date of January 1, 2022 for the beginning of the validity of the new rules of the Gold Portugal Visa.

Retroactive effect and renewal of the Gold Visa Portugal

The definition of the new rules does not prevent the renewal of existing applications for the Gold Visa, or as it is officially known, the Residence Permit for Investment (ARI). Likewise, the change in 2022 still allows for the addition of family members to the applications already made.
